Choosing what TED sends you

Last updated 2026-10-27

The bell icon always shows you activity inside TED. Email and Slack are separate, and you choose what reaches you there from Settings > Notifications.

Opening your notification settings

  1. Select your profile menu in the top right and choose Notifications, or select Manage notifications at the bottom of the bell's Activity panel.
  2. You'll see a grid: one row per event, with a switch for Email and a switch for Slack. A third column, In-app, is the bell — it's always on, except for the Texts & calls rows, which you can turn off.
  3. Flip any switch, then select Save. The button stays disabled until you've changed something.

What you'll see

The grid only shows rows you're actually eligible for, grouped the same way across every team member:

  • Addressed to me — mentions, deals you're assigned to, tasks and approvals on an automator run, a follow-up due on a contact you own, a document expiring on a contact or company you own, and anything else sent directly to you. A new deal that seats you arrives under Assigned to a deal.
  • My deals — a deal you own or are staffed on moves to a new stage, or has a closing, due diligence, or earnest money due date coming up (an earnest money reminder stops once the deposit is marked received).
  • Team activity — every deal created or changing stage across the whole team, not just yours. This only appears if your role gives you team-wide visibility into deals, and it's delivered as an hourly summary rather than one message per event.
  • People — a teammate's birthday or work anniversary. Only shows if your role gives you access to the Employees section, and you never get this about your own birthday or anniversary.
  • Pay — one of your commission lines is marked earned or paid, you reach a bonus level on one of your bonus plans, or a bonus of yours (or a correction to one) is marked paid. Only shows if your role gives you access to Pay & Time.
  • Texts & calls — a contact texts your line (Text received), calls and nobody picks up (Missed call), or leaves you a voicemail (Voicemail). You also get these for contacts you own when they text or call any of your team's lines. They reach only the person whose line it was and the contact's owner, and only for numbers saved on a contact — texts and calls from unknown numbers never send an alert. See Texts and calls on a deal or contact.

Each row has a short description of exactly when it fires.

What "always on" means for in-app

The bell can't be turned off for most events — they always show up there, regardless of your Email/Slack choices. Email and Slack are additional channels on top of the bell, not a replacement for it.

The exception is Texts & calls: a busy line can mean a lot of alerts, so each of those three rows has a working In-app switch. Turn it off and that alert stops completely — the Email and Slack switches on that row are greyed out until you turn In-app back on, because there's nothing to send. See Understanding notifications for what the bell itself shows and how to read it.

Linking Slack

The Slack column stays disabled with a Link Slack button until you connect your Slack account. Select it to open your Profile page, where you can link Slack — once it's connected, the Slack switches become available here. Slack notifications arrive as a direct message from TED, never posted to a channel. If TED ever loses the ability to message you on Slack (for example, the bot gets removed from your DM), this page shows a "Slack delivery paused — re-link" notice — select it and re-link your account to resume.

Defaults

Every event starts with a sensible default — on for things addressed to you (your deals, your assignments, your commissions), off for team-wide activity, birthdays and anniversaries, deal comments, and general deal updates. Text and call alerts start in the bell only — Email and Slack are off until you turn them on. Follow-up due and Document expiring start with Email on and Slack off. You can change any of them; your choices are saved per team, so switching teams shows that team's own settings.
