A deal's stage progress

Last updated 2026-10-09

Every deal's header shows a progress strip with one segment per pipeline stage (see Customizing your pipeline stages) — for example NAT, OTTO, MSB, STC, and C&F on TED's default pipeline (spelled out in full on a wider screen, abbreviated on a narrow one — hover or tap a segment for its full name either way). Each segment shows that stage's current status and a percentage, an empty track if nothing's started in that stage yet, or a dash ("No status yet") if no automators apply to it at all. An amber dot appears on a segment if anything in that stage needs your attention. If the deal has no automator runs anywhere yet, a single line below the strip reads No runs yet — start an automator from the Automators tab, with a link straight there; it goes away as soon as any stage has a run.

Which automators count toward a deal

A stage's percentage is the average progress of the automators that apply to this deal — one that hasn't started yet counts as 0%. An automator applies to a deal when:

  • its triggers are limited to deal types and one of them is this deal's type (for example, a "(Novation)" kickoff whose automatic trigger is set to Novation only won't show up on, or count against, a Wholesale deal);
  • none of its triggers are limited to deal types, so it applies to every deal; or
  • it has already been started on this deal, whatever its triggers say.

If any trigger is limited to deal types, those limits decide it — a Manual trigger left on all deal types doesn't make the automator apply everywhere. Triggers that are turned off don't count. You set a trigger's deal types when building the automator (see Publishing an automator). Changing a deal's type updates its percentages on its own within about a minute.

Opening a stage's detail

Select a segment to open its detail:

  • Statuses — every status in that stage, with the deal's current one marked. If you have access, select Set next to any status to move the deal into it directly. Setting the very next status is one click; if you're skipping over statuses, or an earlier stage still has an automator run in flight, you'll see a confirm dialog first — it names what's being skipped (or what's still running) so you can back out before committing. On a canceled or on-hold deal the statuses stay visible but Set is switched off: a canceled deal shows "Reopen the deal from the header to move its pipeline status", an on-hold deal shows "Resume the deal from the header first". Moving a pipeline status never reopens or resumes a deal by itself — change the deal's status in the header first.
  • Automator runs — every automator that applies to this stage, arranged in one column per lane (its home role) side by side — for example Transaction Coordinator and Dispo next to each other — so you can see at a glance what each lane still owes in this stage. An automator with no home role gets its own "No lane" column. Each run shows its own progress bar; a run spawned by another automator is marked Sub-run. One that hasn't started yet shows Starts when: and a plain-language description of its trigger, with a Start now button if you're allowed to start it (see "Who can start a run" below); one that has shows an Open run link straight to it.
  • Available sub-automators — some automators only run as a sub-step of another one (for example, an inspection-issue automator that a contract automator normally kicks off automatically). If one of those hasn't started yet — say, because the deal predates that automation, or the automatic hand-off didn't fire — and it's set up to allow starting it by hand, it shows up here with its own Start now button, same access rule as above. You won't see these automators in the deal's regular Start automator menu; this section is the only place to start one manually.
  • Needs attention — the same banners you'd see on the run itself; see Needs attention on a run.

See Running an automator on a deal for what happens once you open a run from here, including who can select Start now.
