Two rows in the same permissions matrix, set together or separately, shape how focused a person's day-to-day view is: the Deals row's My deals / Team deals scope limits which deals a role can open and edit, and setting the Team Dashboard row to None hides the team-wide dashboard from a role entirely. Both live in the same place — editing a role from Settings > Roles — and neither is a security lock: it's a workflow and clarity control. See Roles and permissions for the full concept reference this article builds on.
Limiting a role to its own deals
- Go to Settings > Roles (admin only) and select the role to edit, or Create Role to start a new one.
- Find the Deals row in the permissions matrix.
- Set its scope control to My deals (the other option, Team deals, is the default and today's behavior).
- Select Save Changes.
"Assigned" means the deal's owner, its transaction coordinator, or a listed deal employee — the same test used everywhere else this setting takes effect.
The Deals row's scope can't be set on an admin role: if the role has Edit access on the Settings row, every other row — including Deals — is locked to Edit and Team deals, with a note that admins always see every deal. If a member holds more than one role, the most open scope wins for each category — one role scoped to Team deals on Deals gives them every deal regardless of what any other role's Deals row says.
Hiding the Team Dashboard from a role
Team Dashboard visibility is just the existing Team Dashboard row in the same permissions matrix — there's no separate setting for it:
- In the same role editor, find the Team Dashboard row.
- Set its access control to None.
- Select Save Changes.
Anyone holding that role (and no other role that grants Team Dashboard access) no longer sees Team Dashboard in the left-hand navigation, and going to it directly is blocked with an "Access Denied" page.
What's scoped, and what isn't
Setting a role's Deals row to My deals changes these screens for anyone holding it (and no other role scoped to Team deals on Deals):
- Whiteboard shows a My deals / Company board toggle. My deals (the default) shows only their assigned deals. Company board shows every team deal, but cards for deals that aren't theirs are locked — no opening, editing, or dragging, just a label showing who it's assigned to.
- Opening a deal directly by URL — including a link someone sent — is blocked with a "You don't have access to this deal" page if they're not assigned to it.
- My Dashboard's Recent Activity feed only shows activity on their assigned deals. This part applies to every role, admins included — My Dashboard is a personal view; Team Dashboard is the team-wide one.
Team Dashboard visibility is independent of the Deals row's scope — you can hide Team Dashboard from a role without touching its Deals scope, or scope a role's Deals without hiding Team Dashboard. The Whiteboard, Calendar, My Tasks, Comms, and Team Runs rows each carry their own independent My deals / Team deals scope too — narrowing one doesn't narrow the others. Contact Hub, Reports, and every other non-scoped row are governed only by their own access level in the same matrix.
What this doesn't do
The Deals row's scope and hiding Team Dashboard are workflow and clarity controls — they keep each person's everyday view focused on their own work. They're not a lockbox: admins can always see and access every deal, on any role, regardless of what any row's scope says.
See The deal pipeline board for what the Whiteboard toggle looks like in use, and Roles and permissions for the full picture of what every row in the matrix controls.
